Issue Jan 07-13 2026: It is widely believed that the political panorama in Latin America and the Caribbean has shifted to the right in recent years. Since April of 2023, seven countries, and possibly eight once Costa Rica holds its elections in February, have opted for right-wing leaders. Since the election of Lula and the failed government Petro government in Colombia, it is said that Latin American “leftism” is finished.
