Latin Americans Take Their Protests to the Streets

In recent weeks, Latin Americans have marched in massive protests in various countries (though for different reasons). In Chile, millions of people went into the streets in cities throughout the country to demand changes to the privatized pension system, which was imposed on Chileans by the Pinochet dictatorship in the 1980s. In Argentina, marchers continued to go out on strike and to support endangered memory projects dedicated to never letting people forget the Dirty War. In the Dominican Republic, citizens demanded transparency in corruption investigations. And in Brazil, which has seen truly enormous crowds of protesters in recent years, admittedly dwindling numbers of protesters marched to demand political change.
