World Journalism Summit in Cartagena, Colombia

The World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) held its 68th World Congress of News Media in Cartagena, Colombia from June 12 to June 14, 2016, with the support of the Asociación Colombiana de Editores de Diarios y Medios Informativos.  Hundreds of journalists and editors descended on the beautiful, walled, colonial city on the Caribbean coast to discuss the challenges that face news media around the world, and in Latin America in particular.  These include government repression of independent and opposition journalism, violence by both state and non-state actors, and the increasing difficulty of making enough profit to survive in the digital age.
