Chile and Bolivia have not had diplomatic relations for 37 years, and they are finally on the verge of reestablishment. Both Chile and Bolivia have expressed interest in renewing diplomatic ties; Bolivia being the primary proponent.

Tension erupted at the Venezuela and Colombia border over the death of a Colombian named Yessy Plata Angarita. 

The XXI São Paulo Forum met in Mexico City with the participation of 23 countries. 

President Evo Morales was applauded by the rest of the leaders attending the Mercosur Summit. This was how the integration of the plurinational state of Bolivia to the bloc was celebrated. President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner (CFK) was positive about the survival of Mercosur, and of its economic growth and social inclusion.

In a joint statement, the presidents of Bolivia and Paraguay, Evo Morales and Horacio Cartes, respectively, called upon developed countries and international organizations to “guarantee the right of free passage and access to the sea”.  

The president of Bolivia, Evo Morales, complained on Saturday that Chile appears as a “Latin American Israel;” expansionist, and opposing regional integration and a peaceful solution to the centuries-old Bolivian demand for a sovereign outlet to the sea. 

Colombia has the second largest population of internally displaced people in the world: six million people.

The government of Colombia sent a note of protest to Venezuela because of a decree from Caracas that unilaterally establishes the maritime boundary between the two countries in an area under dispute. 

According to a report by the National Commission for Human Rights (CONADEH), about 3,100 Honduran migrant children were returned to Honduras, mostly from Mexico. 

Rubens Barbosa, the former ambassador of Brazil in Washington, D.C. said that his country has a number of domestic challenges that the private sector and the government will need to face in the coming years, in a global context that is still marked by uncertainty and instability.
