Uptick in Violence in Ecuador Linked to Drug Trafficking

Issue Feb 25-Mar 03 2026: Recent violent incidents in Ecuador’s Manabí province that left nine people dead are bringing attention to a worrying pattern in the area. Since 2025, at least 86 people have simply “vanished,” of which between 47 and 48 cases involved people who simply went fishing or boating and never returned.
