Upheavals in Nicaragua

Recently, the wave of violence which had erupted in Nicaragua in early April has claimed at least 25 lives and left scores wounded and missing. Estimates of the number of arrests ranged from around 20 to hundreds as looting followed almost a week of protests in the capital city of Managua. Images of the city show smashed windows, empty stores and protesters on motorbikes with bandanas covering their faces. Other photos show looters pushing shopping carts full of groceries past piles of burning tires and the debris of ruined barricades.
