Issue Sep 24-30 2025: The Day of the Dead is one of Mexico’s most emotive festivals, during which houses, streets, fields, towns, and cities are festooned in colorful tissue paper and adorned with altars and skulls, all centered around the omnipresence of marigold flowers, the petals of which illuminate the way for souls. Indeed, there is no Day of the Dead without marigolds, nor are there marigolds without Puebla, the state that produces 70% of Mexico’s total supply of this emblematic flower.
