The Peruvian Legislature Kicks Yet Another President Out of Office

Issue Feb 11-17 2026: For the seventh time in ten years, Peru has a new president, and this time less than two months before the next general election. On January 17, 2026, the Peruvian legislature voted, once again, to remove the nation’s sitting president. In this case it was José Jerí, who had only been president since October of 2025, when he took over from Dina Boluarte, the former vice president who had taken over two years before from Pedro Castillo, who had been elected in 2021. Editorialists and pundits wrestled with the implications.
