Issue Aug 20-26 2025: On July 7th of last year, Ismael Zambada, known as “El Mayo,” spoke with Proceso Magazine. Zambada recounted the places in which he has sought refuge, spanning 40 years. Two and a half weeks after sharing his praise of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s policy of “hugs, not bullets,” an agreement that ended his persecution, Zambada was detained by the United States government.
