General Salvador Cienfuegos Zepeda, former defense secretary under Enrique Peña Nieto’s presidency in Mexico, was arrested by the United States D.E.A. in October 2020 on U.S. territory. The president of Mexico demanded a transfer of General Cienfuegos to Mexico so they could carry out the investigation themselves. This affair created immense tension between both nations and led to the formation of a new Security Law that will regulate the presence of foreign agents in Mexico.
