Issue Aug 19-25 2026: On August 18, 2026, Bolivian Police arrested Fernando Cerimedo as he tried to board an Aerolíneas Argentinas flight to Buenos Aires at Bolivia’s Viru Viru airport in Santa Cruz de la Sierra. Hours beforehand, Cerimedo’s ex-partner, Bolivian lawyer and activist Nadia Beller, had been shot multiple times in a hotel doorway by two hitmen disguised as delivery men. Prosecutors in Bolivia are investigating him for “masterminding” the attack while Beller, who says she is four weeks pregnant with his child, testified from her hospital bed that “he wanted to kill me.” Known as the “Steve Bannon” of Latin America, Cerimedo has worked as a political consultant for rightwing leaders all over the region.
