The K’ara K’ara landfill is a municipal waste dump in Cochabamba, Bolivia. It contains two to four million tons of waste. For the past 11 years, there has been discussion about shutting down the landfill because it is over capacity and has become a health hazard. Now, amid the global public health crisis of the coronavirus pandemic, the dangers of the landfill are an increasingly pressing issue, causing a blockade and on-going protests throughout the month met with police and military force.
