In 1965, at 29 years of age, the Uruguayan singer Alfredo Zitarrosa released the album that was soon to make him a national legend: El canto de Zitarrosa. That album, which included such songs as “Milonga para una niña,” “El camba,” “Mire amigo,” and “Recordándote,” was an instant success on the charts, its singles competing for top slots alongside international hits by the Beatles.
