Issue Aug 01-12 2025: On August 7, 2025, Colombian President Gustavo Petro intensified a diplomatic conflict with Peru by accusing it of violating border treaties over the disputed sovereignty of Santa Rosa de Yavarí Island, located in the Amazon River. Indeed, Petro accused Peru of illegally appropriating Colombian territory. Peru’s President, Dina Boluarte, “categorically” rejected Petro’s claims.
