More Angry Protests Against Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil as His Support Continues to Slide

On October 2, 2021, Brazilians went into the streets of many cities nationwide demanding the impeachment of President Jair Bolsonaro. Thousands of people protested in 251 cities all across Brazil. The marches were sponsored by labor unions, student organizations, NGOs, and center-left parties, but they were also joined by members of the anti-Bolsonaro Brazilian right. Driven by inflation, unemployment, and Bolsonaro’s management of the pandemic which has left more than 600,000 Brazilians dead, there are more than a hundred requests for impeachment against Bolsonaro in the Brazilian legislature. The president has also seen his popularity drop to 22%, the lowest since he came to power in 2019. Analysts and commentors weighed in.
