One week later, on Sunday January 8, thousands of supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro stormed Brazil’s Congress, Supreme Court, and Presidential Palace, breaking windows, ransacking, and reportedly, defecating. Commentators around the region immediately pointed to similarities with the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.
