Increasing Turbulence for President Dina Boluarte in Peru

Issue May 08-14 2024: President Boluarte has been in the spotlight since she was photographed earlier this year wearing expensive Rolex watches that appeared to exceed her income as a civil servant before she was elected vice president as the running mate of Pedro Castillo Terrones. Castillo was ousted on December 7, 2022, after attempting to stage a coup, shutting down Congress, and ruling by decree, making her president, after which she was embroiled in the uproar over the deaths of protesters. Now her brother is under investigation for a series of crimes, and she was caught attempting to shut down the prosecutors involved. There is talk in Congress, yet again, of booting her out of office. Analysts and editorialists had plenty to say.
