Historic Feminist Student “Takeover” of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile

On Friday, May 25, hundreds of students of one of the most prestigious universities in all of South America, Santiago’s Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC), chained themselves inside the Casa Central (Central Campus) in the name of a nation-wide feminist movement. Student movements, such as this one, often paralyze academic activities at universities all over Chile, but this is the first student “takeover” of the PUC since 1986, during the Pinochet dictatorship.
