Jimmy Morales, a comedian with no political experience, assumed the presidency of Guatemala on Thursday, January 14.  He promised to fight the corruption that brought the downfall of ex-president Otto Pérez, tackle citizen insecurity, which in 2015 had a rate of 35 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants.
