Former Argentine President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner Indicted for “Malfeasance” in What Many Observers Call a Political Vendetta

The administration of President Mauricio Macri and its allies in the Argentine Congress from the PRO and Unión Cívica Radical (UCR) parties initiated a legal process that resulted in an indictment against President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner (2007-2015) and former members of her Frente para la Victoria (FpV) government.  She and her former ministers stand accused of a rather vague set of charges relating to currency futures policies pursued in the waning months of her second term in office.  The former president and her supporters insist the entire case is political and, frankly, pathetic.  Observers note that it is part of a broader counter offensive by the Latin American Right against the so-called “Pink Tide” of Leftist governments in the region.
