More Explosive Corruption Allegations on the Anniversary of President Rousseff’s Impeachment in Brazil

The Brazilian Supreme Court announced the launch of additional corruption investigations of nine ministers, three governors, 24 senators, 39 members of the Lower House, and various other elected officials. The Court’s actions were driven by testimony generated through the plea bargains of 78 former officials of Odebrecht, Latin America’s largest construction group. The ongoing corruption investigation began with inquiries into irregularities at the state-owned oil company, Petrobras, where politicians and private companies colluded to syphon off public funds. The construction company Odebrecht then went on to export a similar scheme to Latin America and Africa. The list of possible perps reads like a “Who’s Who” of Brazilian politics and threatens the entire existing political establishment.
