A group of writers issued a statement against the language business, pointing out that “linguistic sovereignty” has been in danger ever since the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) signed, “behind the academic community’s back and without consulting it,” an agreement with the Cervantes Institute, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and Salamanca University giving the Servicio Internacional de Evaluación de la Lengua Española universal value and total hegemony.
