A teacher strike that lasted over 37 days has ended all over Colombia. While teachers and eight million students have since returned to school for the remainder of the year, there has been an ongoing debate on how far to push the academic calendar to make up the lost days. The challenge facing educators is having to make up for lost time without overworking their students. However, if President Juan Manuel Santos wants Colombia to be the most educated country in Latin America, teachers must squeeze in academics while pushing for reform.
