Artificial Glaciers in Chile

Issue Aug 13-19 2025: Extreme temperatures and drought are only two of the consequences of global warming affecting the globe. Especially hard-hit are the glaciers in the Andes mountain range in Chile, which has experienced a drastic reduction in permafrost. Indeed, the central region of the range alone has lost an area of 3,500 square kilometers, or six times the metropolitan area of the capital of Santiago, over the last two decades.
