Costa Rica Carries Out its First Mass Deportation by Air

Issue Mar 11-17 2026: Costa Rica has carried out its first mass deportation by air, sending 33 people from various nations to Panama, Colombia, and Ecuador. According to the Central American nation’s General Directorate of Migration and Aliens (DGME), the flight, which was conducted with the support of Washington, departed San José’s Juan Santamaría Airport and arrived in Panama to hand over people of Panamanian, Indian, British, Mexican, Jamaican, Salvadoran, and Honduran nationality to officials there.
