Venezuela Ranks Dead Last in Latin America for Freedom of Expression

Issue Mar 04-10 2026: Venezuela ranks last among the 23 Latin American countries evaluated in the Chapultepec Index of Freedom of Speech and the Press, 2025. Together with Nicaragua, the South American nation, according to the report, is a country “without freedom of expression,” scoring only 7.02 points out a possible 100 in the wake of an especially repressive post-election period that witnessed the arrests of over 2000 people.
