Milei Creates Orwellian “Official Response Office” in Argentina

Issue Feb 11-17 2026: In George Orwell’s famous dystopian novel 1984, the protagonist, Winston Smith, finds himself daily forced to read three phrases fronting Oceana’s Ministry of Truth: “War is peace, ignorance is strength, freedom is slavery.” Winston’s job, of course, is with the Records Department, where his job is to “rectify” data from the past to fit current dogma. While Orwell’s novel is, of course, a work of fiction, reality in Argentina is beginning to resemble it in ways that are too close for comfort.
