Salvadoran President Alters Constitution

Issue Jan 07-13 2026: Right before the holiday break on December 16, the Salvadoran Legislative Assembly fast-tracked two new changes to that country’s constitution, slashing the minimum budget guaranteeing autonomy to the judiciary and lengthening the term of magistrates serving on the Supreme Electoral Court. The reforms also reduced by two years the terms of current Electoral Court officials, two of whom were forwarded by the opposition.
