Farming Community in Mexico Under Siege

Issue Jan 01-06 2026: San Lucas Atzala, a farming community in Calpan the Mexican state of Puebla, has long depended on corn for its income. Amid a severe water crisis that began in March, economist and political scientist Sonia Ventura decided to live in the community because of the lack of potable water affecting the area and, in spite of fear of reprisal, has launched a campaign to mobilize residents and demand justice and remediation for the sewage polluting he groundwater.
