Issue Sep 24-30 2025: In late September 2025, protests intensified in Ecuador when the Confederación de Nacionalidades Indígenas del Ecuador (CONAIE) continued its indefinite strike, which went into effect on September 22, against the Government of President Daniel Noboa. His administration eliminated government subsidies for diesel fuel. The government reiterated that it would not negotiate or back down on the decision to eliminate the diesel subsidy. Violence escalated resulting in at least one death. Editorialists responded with a degree of frustration.
