Issue Aug 20-26 2025: The “Portrait of a Lady” by Giuseppe Ghislandi that was stolen by Nazis from the collection of Jewish merchant Hacques Goudstikker had a shocking reappearance after 80 years. The painting made its most recent cameo in a photo taken inside the Argentine home of the former SS officer Friedrich Kadgien. This means the painting ended up in the hands of Kadgien, a Nazi official and member of the SS. He first fled to Switzerland and then to South America, dying in Buenos Aires in 1978.
