Natalia Garrote worked at a highway concessionaire, and then a companion began sexually harassing her; the increased participation of women in the labor market is one of the most notable changes in Latin America in the last 30 years, but despite the strong economic growth of the region during the last decade, poverty and gender gaps in income and employment opportunities for women have not changed significantly; and while laws in the countries of Central America stipulate maternity benefits, in practice what prevails are discrimination, harassment and layoffs.
