However, feminists and women’s rights activists around the country are wondering what a female president would mean for a society mired in gender-based violence and discrimination. With International Women’s Day (March 8) serving as a backdrop, both of the leading presidential candidates, Xóchitl Gálvez and Claudia Sheinbaum, presented detailed proposals on gender issues to the public in order to galvanize support for their respective platforms. However, some observers doubt that such ambitious plans will actually come to fruition should one of the candidates step into office.
