!!!

Issue Feb 08-14 2023: The Honduran chancellor, Eduardo Enrique Reina, has announced that a date is being worked out for the country’s president, Xiomara Castro, to travel to the United States and visit detention centers for children that are on the border with Mexico. The U.S. government has confirmed its willingness to arrange for Castro to visit the area.

El Heraldo of Tegucigalpa reported that Reina explained the president’s concern for the issue which has resulted in a formal request sent to the U.S. government for an official visit. According to the National Institute for Migration (INM), between January and February, a total of 1,196 minors were deported from the United States.

Daily, hundreds of Hondurans leave their homes to journey to the United States in search of a better life. However, the United States has communicated in press release that the border is not open and that those who attempt to enter illegally will be deported.

Nearly three thousand Honduran unaccompanied minors are being held in detention centers. President Castro has expressed her desire to visit them and work with the United States in locating their family members.
