With former President Lula da Silva’s recently overturned conviction and the closing of the infamous Operation Lava Jato this month, Brazil’s corruption scandals seem to be fading into history. Despite these developments, there has been no shortage of corruption and bribery scandals in 2021, with the President of the Chamber of Deputies and a former Rio mayor facing charges. And while President Bolsonaro assured the public that corruption is no longer a problem in Brazil, his four sons remain under investigation for various schemes and bribery charges. In fact, outside organizations have established independent investigations into corruption in the Brazilian government.
