Just ten months before presidential elections, Martín Vizcarra’s possible impeachment added a political crisis to Peru’s current challenges, which include a pandemic and an economic recession. It also marked a new peak in the confrontation between the new Congress and President Vizcarra. However, despite efforts from the political parties of Acción Popular, Unión por el Perú, Alianza para el Progreso and Podemos Perú, Congress did not produce enough votes for impeachment to happen.
