Alberto Fernández Brings Peronismo Back to Argentina’s Casa Rosada

On December 10, 2019, Alberto Fernández assumed the office of President of Argentina. He united the various factions of Peronismo in the Frente de Todos coalition, and alongside his Vice President, former President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, replaced President Mauricio Macri, the first non-Peronista president who managed to complete a term in office in almost ninety years. Fernández inherited a much-weakened economy that has seen two consecutive years of declining GDP. President Fernández quickly moved to implement a series of significant policy changes, mindful of the need for international financial support, condemned by the defeated center-right, and hailed by majorities of Argentinians. Armies of pundits lined up on both sides to boo or cheer.
