Amidst an economic catastrophe and a political dictatorship, Venezuela finds itself in a profound humanitarian crisis. As a result of Nicolás Maduro’s cruel regime and sanctions set against them, people within Venezuela’s borders face extreme food shortages and the absence of medications. Between four to five million Venezuelans are displaced and the number of Venezuelans fleeing their homeland is only growing. Five years after Maduro took power, experts say that they do not believe migration will cease anytime soon. Many countries around the world have expressed their stance on Venezuela’s humanitarian issue, choosing to enforce sanctions or prohibit the entry of those linked to Maduro’s administration. Nevertheless, South American countries are assisting Venezuelan migrants with organizations that provide them with help. The countries that continue to receive the most Venezuelan migrants include Colombia, Peru, and Chile.
