Gender violence and femicide is a historically rooted problem in Argentina. The Latin American Feminist Movement, the United Nations, and other women’s rights groups have been working to eliminate gender violence targeting women since 1981. However, in Argentina, even after international movements and national campaigns that worked to eliminate gender violence, more than twenty years later the number of annual femicides has actually risen between 2016 and 2017. The number of reports against gender violence has also risen. In light of these reports from late November 2017, the Argentine government and social organizations are upping their game in the fight to eliminate the problem.
